The blessing of not being rich

I have read several articles, some more scientific than others, stating that there is a limit in the amount of happiness money can bring. These articles support with more or less facts that, once somebody starts earning too much money, managing the money itself becomes a source of worry and makes them less happy. I believe that quantity was around $75,000 a year not so long ago.

I never took this kind of studies very seriously because I really think that happiness is something very subjective and as such, money is simply one of the many factors that influences it. However, money is the enabler of many of the activities and actions that we believe make us happy. I want to stress well the word BELIEVE, because like everything that we have not done and we try for the first time, we might get deceived after going through the new experience.

I could not help thinking how some times the fact that we do not have unlimited amount of resources is a real blessing. The New York Times published recently an article written by a well educated wealthy woman who wanted to share with the readers how she felt she was addicted to plastic surgery. Several times through her text she mentioned that she would not even reflect on the risks or consequences of the operations. She had the money, she could afford it, so she would simply do it.

It seems that more often than we think, having to prioritize things in life saves us from our own stupidity. Maybe the border between coping well with our daily struggles and considering our stupid ideas seriously is $75,000 per year.

It seems that increments of wealth make people happier in countries that are richer. I wonder. Does inflation also influence happiness :P ?
